The Glock is a state-of-the-art service pistol that is very interesting for a company founded to make cornices. Gaston Glock had no experience in making weapons, but he did have experience in polymer production. He gathered top European firearms experts, produced the Glock 17 in 1982, and the rest is glorious Austrian history.

Differences In Glock Generations

Glock pistols are semi-automatic, polymer-framed, short-recoil, bolt-action, bolt-action. Well, most of them are - the rimfire G44 is a blowback gun and is the only gun that breaks the mold. Glock pistols come in tons of different calibers and in many different sizes. This was not the first polymer-framed pistol, but it was the first highly successful polymer pistol.

The G17 was the first model produced and was designed to meet the needs of the Austrian military. The special needs of the Austrian military led to the development of the weapon and defined Glock pistols to this day. The Austrian military needed a safe, light, powerful and reliable semi-automatic pistol, and the Glock filled that need.

Glock has a simple way of naming their pistols. Each model gets a number after the letter G, which stands for Glock. The numbers have nothing to do with the gun itself and may seem arbitrary to many - for example, the G45 is not a 45 caliber pistol, it's actually a 9mm.

Numbers are assigned to structures as they are introduced, not in the order in which they are issued. So while the G20 and 21 began development before the 22 and 23, the 22 and 23 were released first.

The G17 hit the streets at a time when handgun safeties were commonplace. Glock's Plastic Fantastics didn't have a manual safety, but that doesn't mean it's unsafe. Glock calls its pistols the Glock Safe Action Pistol which refers to the three built-in safeties.

The trigger safety is that familiar little doohickey that sits in the center of the trigger. Your finger is depressing the trigger when you pull the trigger, so without activating the trigger, the trigger cannot be pulled.

The firing pin guard prevents the firing pin from moving forward when the firing pin is fired. When the trigger is pulled, the trigger pushes the firing pin safety up and out of the way. If you release the trigger before firing, the firing pin safety automatically snaps back into place.

Fall protection is a device that does exactly what you think. Dropping the gun ensures that it cannot fire. When you pull the trigger, the trigger lever lowers the safety and allows the firing pin to be released.

Glock is currently in its fifth generation. New generations arrive as Glock makes changes, both exterior and interior. There is no timeline for when Glock generations end or begin, they are updated as needed.

Glock 17 Vs. Glock 19

The release of a new generation does not mean that the previous generations disappear. Often new and old generations of Glocks are released side by side.

There are also rifles that exist beyond the mentioned generations of Glocks. Some weapons are all over the place and may be missing the generation markers used to determine which generation the weapon belongs to. Some guns are also split generation, which is common between Gen 2 and Gen 3 guns. Glock fans often refer to them as Gen 2.5 guns.

Gen 1 - The first Glocks ever on the market. Plain and simple: these are guns that work. The Gen 1 was built entirely from one pistol, the Glock 17.

Gen 2 – Glock added different sizes and specifications to the Gen 2 models. A metal serial number plate was added, the slide system became a one-piece design, a checkerboard was added to the front and rear of the grip, and the base of the magazine was changed.

Genesis 3 – The third generation is where the rail became a common choice on larger guns rather than smaller ones. The handle has additional finger rests and nuts are cut into the left and right sides of the frame which functioned as thumb rests.

Internal changes included a cross pin above the trigger to reduce pressure on the locking block. The miner also stopped when the room was loaded and acted as a loaded room indicator.

Gen 4 - With the Gen 4, Glock slimmed down the pistol grip a bit and added a custom strap system to change the size of the grip. The grip has also been stiffened and the magazine release has been modified for lefties.

The Gen 4 also included a dual-spring assembly that reduces recoil. Gen 4 also introduced MOS rifles that allowed for easy sight placement.

Gen 5 - The latest generation of Glocks is the Gen 5. These pistols have seen the removal of the trigger, the magazine well has been upgraded for faster loading, the top cut has been made with a trigger guard for a better grip, and the slide lock is now present. ambidextrous.

Glock released the Gen 4 line of pistols in early 2010, which addressed some levels... frame and make small external changes. Almost seven years later, we were introduced to the next generation in the Glock line. The differences in Generation 5 are pretty clear on the surface, but there are some interesting changes that aren't immediately obvious.

I have been using my Gen 5 Glock 19 since the end of August and have put about 4,000 rounds through it since then. I spent it with static accuracy and in strong skin self-defense exercises, and without a light attached to the rail. I also spent time taking it apart and getting to know the internal changes and problems of replacing parts (since Glocks are fun fun tools).

For the most part, the Gen 5 Glock 19 is just a Glock 19, but there are some interesting and unusual changes that warrant investigation. There are also caveats that early buyers should be aware of. I hope to cover most of them here, but keep in mind that this knowledge is based on less than 2 months of use, several times a week. More time can tell more stories.

Most of this review will cover the differences of the Gen-5 from previous versions and the specific concerns of Gen-5 users (carrying, recording, accessories, etc...). Glock Gen5: The New Generation

Also note that the photos shown in this article do not show factory new pistols. Instead, these are shots of someone who uses them heavily several days a week. They tend to be a little beat up.

The first and best reason to consider this gun is that it is a Glock 19; Probably the best all-purpose rifle ever made. It is large enough to be a full rifle and offers precision performance and large magazine capacity while being small and light enough for everyday concealed carry.

Additionally, the excellent reliability record offered by Glock pistols cannot be overlooked. In my own experience, I have fired over 100,000 rounds through Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock pistols, and the only failures I have ever had were from non-Glock parts failing and Cerakote not working properly. With spare parts, the Glock pistol is nearly flawless, even under harsh conditions.

Specific to the 5th generation, you may consider the new Glock 19 for a number of primary reasons. First, the slide lock lever is now double sided. So if you are left handed, switch the mag version to the right and you have a completely left handed gun. For those of you who like Glock pistols but not finger grips, the Gen 5 comes with a flat front grip strap. No customization required.

Differences In Glocks - We often hear the word "revolutionary" when it comes to new products in the world of firearms. However, the number of rifles that have truly revolutionized the gun industry is relatively low.

When Glock introduced the G17, it changed everything we thought we knew about guns. The company quickly followed up with its younger brother, the Glock 19. There are some subtle (and not so subtle) differences between the rifle. In this post, we will take a look at them and see how they stack up against each other.

Differences In Glocks

Gaston Glock designed the Glock 17 in the early 1980s as a candidate for the Austrian Army's new 9mm service pistol. It was not the first production pistol to use a polymer frame (that honor goes to the H&K VP70), nor was it the first to use a firing pin. The genius of the Glock 17 was how to take these elements and combine them into a weapon that is simple, easy to maintain, light and accurate.

Are Glocks Better Than 1911?

The Model 19 was Glock's third production model. (The Model 18 is a version of the Model 17 intended for the Austrian counter-terrorism unit with fully automatic fire capability.) It takes all the functions and features of the Glock 17 and measures them up a notch, creating a more compact weapon that is easier to carry.

As mentioned, Glock originally designed the Model 17l for the Austrian Army. As such, it was meant to be worn by soldiers in the field. Its accuracy, durability and light weight have made it an attractive choice for people. However, many shooters needed a slightly smaller handgun.

Over the years, Glock has modernized the design of its pistols. They've added features like textured handles and finger grooves for a better grip, as well as interchangeable back straps for a better grip. They've also changed the internal mechanism slightly on the latest Gen 5 models. For our comparison, we looked at the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19. Both have proven to be consistent and reliable performance devices for civilians, military, and law enforcement.

In your hand, there isn't much difference between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19. The rifles feel basically the same, although the Model 19 has a slightly shorter grip.

A Legend Is Back

The two pistols have the same width (1.26 inches) and the same distance from the back of the slide to the ejection port. The Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19 both have interchangeable backstraps, though the Model 17 backstraps will not fit the Model 19 and vice versa. The Glock 19 in our photos is my personal Model 19. It has a backstrap with a small extension near the slide, which is different from what the Model 17 uses.

The height of both pistols is also different. A standard Glock 17 magazine holds 17 rounds, while a standard Glock 19 magazine holds 15 rounds. At 5.47 inches, the 17 has a frame just under half an inch longer than the 19. 17 weighs 32.3 ounces empty. The smaller 19 model weighs 23.6 ounces.

The barrel and bolt length is where we see the biggest difference between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19. The Gen 4 model 17 has a slide length of 7.32 inches and a barrel length of 4.49 inches. The Glock 19 has a slide length of 6.85 inches and a barrel length of 4.02 inches.

Due to the different lengths of the barrel and sliding elements, the return springs are not interchangeable among themselves. However, all parts of the frame's fire control are interchangeable between the two weapons.

We tested the accuracy of the Glock 17 and Glock 19 using three commonly available brands of 9mm ammo:

Both guns were fired from rest at a target 15 yards away. We tested average velocity and average group size using a ProChrono digital chronograph positioned behind the barrel of each rifle. The temperature at the time of testing was 85 degrees with 85 percent humidity.

The heavier Glock 17 pistols seem to be more manageable with recoil than the Glock 19. However, both pistols scored excellent on our accuracy tests. The Glock 17's longer barrel allows more powder to burn inside the cartridge case while still being pulverized into the barrel. This resulted in slightly higher muzzle velocities for the Glock 17 than for the Glock 19.

From its military beginnings, the Glock 17 has found its home in the portfolios of police officers around the world. Weighing in at just over two pounds, it revolutionized what a service handgun could be.

However, the Glock 17 was not meant to be concealed. The longer frame of the Model 17 means that the pistol’s stock protrudes slightly under concealed carry clothing. This makes it a challenge to hide. However, in recent years, the rise in popularity of the Waist Belt (AIWB) has seen an increase in interest in using the Glock 17 as a concealed carry pistol. The taller, longer gun is very comfortable to hold in this position.

With 15 rounds of 9mm ammo in the magazine, a 4-inch barrel, a decent trigger, and a compact size, the Glock 19 is one of the best concealed carry pistols out there. It's easy to conceal on your belt, has an amazing range of accessories available, and has a reputation for reliability that most other handguns on the market like.

However, the two extra cartridges in the Glock 17 give it a slight advantage in firepower over the Glock 19. The Glock 17's slightly longer slide (and thus its longer sight radius) gives the Glock 17 a slight advantage in accuracy.

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you want a gun for your home defense, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything better than the Glock 17. It's a gun that works well for practical shooting competitions. For everyday concealed carry, practice and training, the Glock 19 is pretty much the standard by which all other compact 9mm pistols are judged. Either way, you get a reliable and accurate handgun that has been a market leader for decades.

If that's good enough for the police department, you know you can count on it when you need it.

Mini models are smaller in size and are specifically designed for concealed carry. As the name suggests, the Slimline models are the smallest production Glock pistols and use a single magazine, which results in a very narrow frame at the expense of reduced magazine capacity. Competition models feature longer barrels, longer clips and better sights.
