Glock guns are identified by their make and model number and are divided by size, which includes the following categories: regular, compact, subcompact, slimline, competition, long slide, and crossover.

Standard Glocks are large handguns designed for work and home defense. Barrel length is 4.49 inches and 4.61 inches depending on the model. Standard-style Glocks are some of the best-selling handguns and strike a balance between size, weight, and control.
Compact is a relative term. These Glocks are still very large with 4.02 inch long barrels and grips that fill your hand. The slightly shorter grip and longer barrel make it easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry in the gun range. That being said, this is the most popular Glock size group.
Subcompact Glocks are handguns and backup guns designed for concealment. These guns sport very short frames, and barrel lengths vary between 3.43 inches and 3.78 inches. These guns are straightforward to carry and conceal however you want.
These little beauties are designed to hide. The design of Glock's Slim Pistol is highly concealable, accurate and comfortable for all shooters, regardless of hand size. The frame has a fixed beavertail, a grip designed for easy control, and the magazine catch is adjustable.

More than full size, we are talking about guns that are designed for competition shooting. Standard type frames, however, have long frames and barrels. The longer slide and barrel provide a longer profile and higher velocity, as well as less recoil and muzzle flip.
Crossover Glocks are compact and have a full holster with an integrated slide. The design was developed for the MHS military competition, but it was also popular with civilians. Glock considers the G43X to be a crossover, but it's a single stack, so Glock's dimensions remain controversial.

The story of the Glock is interesting because the man who made the gun knew nothing about gun design. Gaston Glock sold batons and knives to the Austrian army, and was an expert in injection molded parts. His team developed the Model 17 rifle to support the Austrian Army, who needed new sidearms, and the legend of the rifle was born. Interestingly, the "17" represents the 17th patent issued to the Glock Corporation and this numbering system continues to this day.

Shooters are either Glock fans or detractors - there's no middle ground there. I am one of those rare birds who are at the center of my mind Gaston Wunderkind. I have had a Model 30 .45 ACP for a long time and had a commercial barrel to shoot my pistols. They did well without overdoing it. The gun was not impressive. I've put together a chart of straight shooters, comparing the specs of the most popular brands, as well as all twenty of their brands. Indeed, some of these models are rare in gun shops because they are designed for a specific purpose (for example, the long-range competition, Model 34 Superior). So, before we download all the chart numbers, let's take a closer look at the popular Glock 9mms.

Now, let's look at individual examples, but before that, a little explanation is needed. If you look at the table above, you will see "MOS" and "FS" listed after some models. MOS stands for Modular Optic System. Glock designed the frames on these guns by drilling a hole in the front of the rear to accept a red dot or other mounting plate. It is covered with filler when not in use.

FS means that the rifle includes Front (Slide) Serrations. Rifles marked FS have serrations on the front of the slide to adjust the look in addition to the standard rear serration. Many shooters have asked Glock to include front sights on all of their new pistols. Currently only used on guns marked FS.

If we want this article to be as useful as possible for those who are thinking of buying a Glock, an explanation of the generations of Glock is in order. "Generation" in Glock terminology is synonymous with the companies that have come out with "Mod 2", "2.0" etc. Basically it means a change in the quality of their guns. Behavioral changes (known as mutations) can be minor, minor "major", or a combination of both into the next generation. So, from the original Glock (now called Gen1) in this article to the new generation, Gen5.
This is an original, bare bones Glock Model 17. We can identify this gun by the lack of dimming or writing on the frame and the lack of fingerprints. This is the Glock with which the Austrian army began to be armed.
